The PPRSEF is an ISEF affiliated science fair.  All projects must meet the requirements set up by The International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), a program of Society for Science & the Public (SSP), the world’s largest international pre-college science competition. The complete guidebook of 2022 rules and guidelines can be found at:

Display and Safety rules for the 2021 PPRSEF can be found here:   2021 Display & Safety Regulations - PPRSEF.pdf    These will be updated for the 2022 Fair.

Student registraion for the 2022 PPRSEF will be open from August 2, 2021 through January 20, 2022.

The PPRSEF is open to all 6th - 12th grade students in any educational setting (public, charter, private or home school) in Elbert, El Paso, Park or Teller County.  Projects may be entered by individuals or teams of 2 or 3 students.

Students are required to have projects approved by the PPRSEF SRC or a school SRC before experimentation begins.  Please check with us at  if you have questions.

** Original, completed ISEF forms should be kept in a project folder and be available on the day of the fair.

The Pikes Peak Regional Science Fair, Incorporated (PPRSF) is a non-profit corporation dedicated to stimulating and encouraging youthful interest in science and scientific endeavors through student participation in regional, state, and international science fairs. The Pikes Peak Regional Science and Engineering Fair serves students in grades 6 through 12 in all school districts (including private schools, parochial schools, and home schools) in Elbert, Teller, Park, and El Paso Counties.  There is no requirement for students to participate in a school or area fair to enter the PPRSEF.

2022 will mark the 65th annual Pikes Peak Regional Science Fair.  Additional facts about the PPRSF may be found ou the 2021 PPRSEF Fact Sheet. 2021 PPRSEF Fact Sheet.pdf

Please note - our plan is to hold an in-person fair for 2022.   It is expected that students be available for the full day.  Specific information will be available in early 2022.

For students in grades 4 and 5, the Pikes Peak Elementary Science and Engineering Fair is usually held in April at Mitchell High School. The 2020 and 2021  PPRSEF events were cancelled.  The fair is for students in grades 4 and 5 who place at their school science fairs in the categories of Biology, Physical, Health and Behavioral, Consumer Science or Engineering Design.  Interested participants can contact Darian Founds at for more information or visit the website:

Public Display

Only PPRSEF Board members, judges and registered volunteers are allowed in the exhibition rooms during judging rounds.

We plan to provide public access to the Project Displays on Saturday, February 26th, from 3:00 - 4:00 PM.

The Awards Presentation is still in the planning stages!

What to Expect the Day of the Fair

Students should dress nicely, but comfortably, for the day of judging.   Until the exact schedule is established, students should plan to be at UCCS for judging between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM on Saturday, February 26, 2022

Details about Awards Announcements is still being formuated.

All Categories - Information
The PPRSEF divides students by grade or division (Junior (gr 6-8), Senior (gr 9-12)) and by category. We reserve the right to combine similar categories before competition to create competitive groupings (i.e. - life science, physical science, engineering & math, etc.). Contact the PPRSEF SRC with questions. (Category descriptions from CSEF Finalist Handbook)
Animal Sciences
Studies related to all aspects of non-human animals (including insects), animals life, animals life-cycles, animal health & medicine, animal behavior, and animal interactions with one another or their environment.
Biochemistry & Chemistry
Studies related to the chemical basis of processes occurring in living organisms, including the processes by which these substances enter into, or are formed in the organisms and react with each other and the environment. Studies related to the composition, structure, properties and reactions of matter.
Earth & Space Sciences
Studies related to Earth systems and their evolution. Studies related to anything in the universe beyond Earth.
Energy & Transportation
Studies related to biological & chemical processes of renewable energy sources, clean transport and alternative fuels. Studies related to renewable energy structures and processes including energy production & efficiency.
Studies related to: a) electrical systems in which information is conveyed via signals & wave forms to enhance communications, b) control and/or sensing; c) science & engineering that involves movement & structure; d) the characteristics & uses of materials with improvements to their design; e) the use of machine intelligence to reduce the reliance on human intervention.
Environmental Sciences
Studies related to the environment & its effect on organisms/systems, including investigations of biological processes such as growth and lifespan. Studies related to the engineering or development of processes & infrastructure to solve environmental problems.
Math & Computer Sciences
Studies related to the measurement, properties & relationships of quantities and sets, using numbers and symbols. Studies related to the discipline & techniques of computer science & mathematics as they relate to biological systems. Studies related to the development of software, information processes or methodologies to demonstrate, analyze or control a process/solution.
Medicine & Health
Studies related to the issues of human health & disease. Studies related to the improvement of human health and longevity by translating novel discoveries in the biomedical sciences into effective activities & tools for clinical & public health use.
Microbioloby & Molecular Biology
Studies related to micro-organisms. Studies related to the structure, function, and intracellular pathways & formation of cells. Studies involving understanding life & cellular processes at the molecular level.
Studies related to the science of matter and energy and the interactions of the two.
Plant Sciences
Studies related to plants and how they live, including structure, physiology, development and classification.
Social & Behavioral Sciences
Studies related to the thought processes and behavior of humans & their interactions with the environment as studied through observational and experimental methods.
