The PPRSEF is an ISEF affiliated science fair.  All projects must meet the requirements set up by The IInternational Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), a program of Society for Science & the Public (SSP), the world’s largest international pre-college science competition. Student registraion for the 2020 PPRSEF will be open from August 20, 2019 through January 20, 2020.

The PPRSEF is open to all 6th - 12th grade students in any educational setting (public, charter, private or home school) in Elbert, El Paso, Park or Teller County.  

Students are required to have projects approved by the PPRSF SRC or a school SRC before experimentation begins.  Please check with us at pprsf.colorado@gmail.com  if you have questions.

 

 

 

The Pikes Peak Regional Science Fair, Incorporated (PPRSF) is a non-profit corporation dedicated to stimulat­ing and encouraging youthful interest in science and sci­entific endeavors through student participation in regional, state, and international science fairs. The Pikes Peak Re­gional Science and Engineering Fair serves students in grades 6 through 12 in all school districts (including private schools, parochial schools, and home schools) in Elbert, Teller, Park, and El Paso Counties.  There is no requirement for students to participate in a school or area fair to enter the PPRSEF.

The 2020 Pikes Peak Regional Science and Engineering Fair will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020, at UCCS.

Please note - students are judged several times in the morning and afternoon judging rounds.  It is expected that students be in attendance for the full day.

The Awards Presentation will be held on Tuesday, February 25th, from 6:30 - 8:00 PM.  The location will be announced at a later date.

For students in grades 4 and 5, the Pikes Peak Elementary Science and Engineering Fair is held in April, usually at Mitchell High School. The fair is for students in grades 4 and 5 who place at their school science fairs in the categories of Biology, Physical, Health and Behavioral, Consumer Science or Engineering Design.  Interested participants can contact Darian Founds at darian.founds@d11.org for more information or visit the website: https://www.d11.org/Page/5377 

Public Display

Only PPRSEF Board members, judges and registered volunteers are allowed in the exhibition rooms once judging has started. 

The public, mentors and media are invited to view projects from 3:00 - 4:00 PM at the University Center of UCCS on the day of the fair, Saturday, February 22, 2020.

The Awards Presentation will held on Tuesday, February 25th, from 6:30 - 8:00 PM, at a location to be determined.   The public is welcome to attend the Awards Presentation.

What to Expect the Day of the Fair

Students should dress nicely, but comfortably, as the day can be long.  Lunch is provided, but water bottles and snacks are encouraged.  Students will not be judged continuously, so reading material is allowed, but no games or videos that have sound.  

Please note - students are judged several times in the morning and afternoon judging rounds.  It is expected that students be in attendance for the full day.  

This is the anticipated schedule for 2020.  Slight adjustments may be made.

8:00 - 8:45 AM -  Student Check-In - Atrium on the 2nd floor of the University Center

8:00 - 9:00 AM - Student display set-up and safety checks 

9:00 - 11:30 AM - Morning judging rounds *Only participants, judges and PPRSEF Staff are allowed in the exhibit hall during judging rounds*

11:40 - 12:30 -  Lunch will be provided for student participants.  The lunch will be pizza and pop. 

12:45 - 3:00 PM - Afternoon judging rounds  *Only participants, judges and PPRSEF Staff are allowed in the exhibit hall during judging rounds*

3:00 - 4:00 PM - Public Exhibition in Berger Hall 

4:30 PM - All projects should be removed from UCCS

 

For Parents and Teachers   

UCCS regularly holds tours for visitors and prospective students.  If you would like to participate in a tour, you may view the tour options and register at www.uccs.edu/visit

Food Options 

The Sanatorium Grounds Coffee Shop, located at the south end of the Atrium, will be open from 7:30 am - 1:00 pm. 

Clyde’s Restaurant, located on the lower floor of the UC, will be open from 1:00 – 9:00 pm. 

The UCCS Bookstore, also on the lower floor of the UC, will be open from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Discount coupons for the Bookstore will be available at the Information Desk.  Vending machines are available in the Bookstore and on the lower floor of the UC.

 

The 2020 PPRSEF Awards Presentation will be held on Tuesday, February 25th, from 6:30 - 8:00 PM, at a location to be determined.

The PPRSF divides students by grade or division (Junior (gr 6-8), Senior (gr 9-12)) and by category. We reserve the right to combine similar categories before competition to create competitive groupings (i.e. - life science, physical science, engineering & math, etc.). Animal Sciences
Studies related to all aspects of non-human animals (including insects), animals life, animals life-cycles, animal health & medicine, animal behavior, and animal interactions with one another or their environment. *Please see the ALL CATEGORY INFORMATION.
Biochemistry & Chemistry
Studies related to the chemical basis of processes occurring in living organisms, including the processes by which these substances enter into, or are formed in the organisms and react with each other and the environment. Earth & Space Sciences
Studies related to Earth systems and their evolution. Studies related to anything in the universe beyond Earth. *Please see the ALL CATEGORY INFORMATION.
Energy & Transportation
Studies related to biological & chemical processes of renewable energy sources, clean transport and alternative fuels. Studies related to renewable energy structures and processes including energy production & efficiency. *Please see the ALL CATEGORY INFORMATION.
Engineering
Studies related to: a) electrical systems in which information is conveyed via signals & wave forms to enhance communications, b) control and/or sensing; c) science & engineering that involves movement & structure; d) the characteristics & uses of materials with improvements to their design; e) the use of machine intelligence to reduce the reliance on human intervention. *Please see the ALL CATEGORY INFORMATION.
Environmental Sciences
Studies related to the environment & its effect on organisms/systems, including investigations of biological processes such as growth and lifespan. Studies related to the measurement, properties & relationships of quantities and sets, using numbers and symbols.
